ABOUT THE ARTIST

     Sofía Vera, born in 2001, is a multimedia artist and fashion designer who grew up in Miami, FL. Of Ukrainian, Peruvian, and Jewish heritage, Sofía's diverse background and personal experiences have deeply influenced her artistic voice. Her early life was marked by significant adversity, including battling abuse and homelessness as a child during the 2008 recession. While these experiences added further challenges, but these hardships fueled her passion for the arts and a determination to build a career from a young age.

     

     Sofía's artistic journey gained momentum when she was accepted into Design and Architecture Senior High, where she discovered her love for fashion design and began to find her unique voice. Combining fashion illustration, design, portraiture, and photography, Sofía created a distinctive style that resonated with many. Her talent was recognized by organizations such as the De La Cruz Foundation, Knight Foundation, and YoungArts.

A significant milestone in her career was being a featured designer in Miami Fashion Week, which led to a full scholarship at Istituto Marangoni.

 

     In 2020, Sofía's life took a dramatic turn when she was struck by a drunk driver, resulting in severe injuries that impacted her mobility for two years. This challenging period became a source of immense physical and spiritual growth for Sofía, inspiring a new body of work that explores themes of trauma and nostalgic spaces. As of 2024, Sofía's art delves into issues of trauma, cultural identity, femininity, and sexuality. Through her creative process, she seeks to understand and cope with her place in society as a woman, aiming to open dialogues around the challenges women face daily and to celebrate the beauty of feminine energy.
